Subject Gateway Art and Architecture (ART)

Subject gateway ART provides users with a simultaneous searching facility across Czech and foreign resources (library catalogues, union catalogues, full text databases etc.) in the fields of art, architecture and related subjects, through a single user interface. Resources available in ART can be divided to freely accessible resources and licensed ones. Freely accessible resources are available to every user, no matter where he/she is located or if he/she is registered in the library. Licensed resources are available only for users registered in the library which accesses/owns these resources. To access licensed resources the users have to work on computers with admissible IP addresses.

ART Search allows users to search the resources linked to the gateway. You can enter the query there and choose the resources in which you want to search. Pre-set resource sets are available in the QuickSearch tool. Catalogue of the VAL (VUK) is very important resource set – it provides simultaneous searching in the catalogues of libraries which are members of the Virtual Art Library.

Gateway ART was created as a part of the Coordinated creation of subject information gateways project, in which the National Library of the Czech Republic and the Charles University in Prague cooperates. It follows the Virtual Art Library project which was realized in 2004.

Gateway ART is still “under construction” and therefore please forgive any problems in this early stage. We hope the project will bring essential improvement in services for researchers in the field of art and architecture. Users will gain better access to free accessible and licensed resources through this gateway and access to a wider selection of electronic and classic resources, via searching the collections of participating libraries.
